Middle School Concept

What questions do you have about developing a middle school?

Reflect upon student-centered learning:

  1. Would the advisor stay with the students for grades 6-8? Is the advisor strictly a "6th" grade advisor? Would they a get a high school advisor for grades 9-12?

How can encourage the homeroom teacher or the advisor to take a sincere active role in the position?? A parent noted that some advisors don't really do anything and that affects the student's experience.

Shall we provide formal training and information (have a plan) to what's going to happen during advisee time?

During Success 19 time, last year we seemed to have more students volunteer to assist others----what happened this year??

Do they eat lunch with the high school students??

Would we consider intramurals activities for the 6th grade?

  2. We can't get the lap tops soon enough. Will it be overwhelming for 6th graders to handle the schedule? Will a large class size for the core classes create an atmosphere for all children to be challenged and decrease chances of boredom (this is a concern with the current 5th grade class)?

  3. Transition needs - how do we make this happen?

HS interaction with 6th grade - can we make this minimal?

Is there a reason for the dip in testing at jr. high? Is this hard for 6th graders coming up?

Is there is a possible bullying problem we would have to be concerned about?

Can homeroom teachers have students immediately report to rooms to make it easier to get away from 6th mixing with 8th?

This 6th grade has been hit with multiple transitions? How can we make this
